Miracle One or Two
Sep 15th, 2009 | By Carla Dodd | Category: Poetry | 226 viewsHe just lay there breathing.
His eyes started out open
and when we would speak
he would blink, and could move
even if it was just a twitch
or his fingers moved
at the touch of your hand
and we hoped
for
a second
until it would stop
and
He just lay there breathing.
Legs shuffled
as though wherever he was
his soul was in a hurry
to get there.
When that journey ended
he would twitch
at a touch
like the current you sent
could defibrillate
and his rhythms
would return.
Then it faded
He just lay there breathing.

About writebrain: Content Editor, Troubadour 21 - Thanks to Mr. Gackstetter, my eighth grade creative writing teacher who let us write for extra credit if we didn't like our assignments, I have been a poet (on and off) since I was 13. I have a degree in journalism and have written more than 1,000 article, but really started into literary writing for good in the past few years. My work has been published online at Erotique and Poetry Life and Times, and I have been published in college publications and as part of a collection, After the Storm.
