What if God did not create the Earth
From molten rock He’d given birth,
And God did not create the sun,
That dawn may break and darkness run?
What if God did not create the sea
To flood the world at His decree,
And God did not create the sky
For seraphim to flutter by?
What if God did not create the trees
To bend their crowns toward Heaven’s breeze,
And God did not create a man
To make complete His righteous plan?
What if man created God instead,
To sit beside his foul bed
And justify his thirst for war,
While Nature weeps outside his door?
What if Hell exists above the ground,
Where cruelty makes his daily round,
And hunger burns on every street
Where tyrants plant their dirty feet?
What if Heaven lies below the clouds,
Laid waste and wrapped in toxic shrouds,
And Eden cries out from the trees,
But no one hears and no one sees?
