Nobody’s Home
Jul 12th, 2009 | By Dianne Borsenik | Category: Poetry | 640 viewsyou are hot
running water
but never
when I need it
you are tangled
coat hangers in
an empty closet
you are the mousetrap
behind the stove
you are shadows
on the wall
where the photos
used to hang
you are cracked
and curling linoleum
ready to trip
the unsuspecting
foot
you are barren
shelves in a cold
kitchen refrigerator
you are the wrong
key scraping
in the lock
you are an apartment
of misery
but I can’t
break the lease

The personification of this piece makes everything live in the mind. Giving life to that place around. “YOU” really takes on a very human feel.
Thanks for sharing this poem with us.
Sometimes, really good poetry packs a lot of meaning into just a few words. This one grabbed me right away.
