I am the rusted barbwire upon forgotten fences,

I am the dim bulb burning from rusty street lamps.

But I breathe I have fire, passion, and in that;

The scars, the rust, the tired bulbs

Mean nothing; save for inspiration.

For it is the inspiration that pulls me from

Doldrums’ drumming monotony.

I am the refuse of gutters,

Running red, and brown, and yellow, and white.

I am the forgotten hiss of analog snow,

I am the flapping flag of off air,

End of day anthems,

Banners flapping in blue gray light

High pitched hymns of nation’s songs,

Lamenting transmission’s end,

Until 6 a.m. when broadcasting will resume.

It is then, it is then, it is then,

When inspiration calls,

And I become the dreamer,

The writer, the artist, the poet.

It is then, it is then, it is then,

When inspiration calls,

And I become the fields, the trees, the runnels voice,

The river’s scream, the robin’s sigh.

And I, and I revel in its gifts.

I celebrate with abounding joy

With rapt expectancy,

This high of simply creating,

A new thing, a new thought.

I am the verbal summation of one voice,

I am the glitter of higher possibilities,

I am one of many that see and render,

That lives a literary life, of dreams and inspiration,

Imagination, coming forth in coagulation

Of thoughts and words, and pictures and sounds.

I am the wind upon this page,

The tempest in the ink,

This lightening in a singular bottle.

One of many, set side by side,

Can and will light the world.

  1. An inspiring, inclusive, communal expression. Stirring word-pictures.

  2. a very moving poem.
The poet’s sincerity and commitment to verse is evident in this poem

  3. I Loved this Poem Bill! I Just Hope When Inspiration Calls, She Doesn’t Block her Number, Cause I Simply Don’t Answer those calls!
