I recently had the privilege to read through Mary Minjeur’s first book of Poetry.
The one hundred and nineteen page book was published in 2007 by Watermark Press.
Mary resides in Sterling Heights Michigan and is married to her husband Carel, together they have three sons.
The title of the book, “Life is a Poem” reflects itself in Mary’s keen wit and ever smiling face. Her work speaks to that of Middle America, Where life comes with all its ups and downs, joys and sorrows, successes and failures. However, throughout Mary’s writings a clear picture is formed through her words; that of strength and faith, one of hope and love.
I was especially moved by one of her passages under her title of “A year’s Diary of Soliloquies. (Page 51)”
July8th:
“Wisdom? Perhaps wisdom comes when one realizes not everything is known. The summation of one’s life then is to find out how ignorant we are after all!”
The pages are filled with dream like renderings, composed and written by a masterful craftsperson. Mary’s ability to reach out and tug on the heart strings of her readers is amazing. This first book is definitely a winner and I would recommend it to all.
If one were to think that Mary’s work can only be read, then your summations would be mistaken. Mary Can be seen from time to time at local Detroit venues such as, Poetry Pages and Scribes at the Southfield Public Library, this event is hosted by Berhenda Williams the first Thursday of each Month from six to eight p.m. she has also made appearances at The Beat Café in Warren Michigan. The Beat Café Hosts open mic poetry events every third Saturday of the month from seven to nine p.m. Mary’s Books can be purchased at The Paperback outlet in Warren Michigan as well. Or, she can be contacted directly via Email at. Minjeur@att.net
“Life is a Poem” will keep the reader turning the page to its seemingly quick end but do not lament its readability. This book is a true gem that must be read again, and again, and again. We leave you with another jewel from this wonderful collection and T21 wishes Mary and her readers all the best.

“Life is a Poem”
You are the poet!
I write, but you fathom.
I compose,
But you understand.
For this,
You wear the laurel.
You are the greater,
And I the least!
