For Minnie
Aug 25th, 2009 | By Susan Walker | Category: PoetryI sit and watch you resting as my children play nearby
I sit and watch you resting as my children play nearby
Night falls slowly, blending dark with light
Hidden from sight, I watch
As you race out the front door and leap off the front porch
Car keys gleaming in the summer sun
Your face laughing, as you back out of the driveway
Headed wherever your whim takes you.
My mind is an empty room swept clean of debris
Airy and light, the sun shines brightly through large, open windows
